Emergency Food Relief

St. Martin's  is one of a number of local organisations where Stonnington residents can access assistance and relief.

There are many needy people and families in our local area who struggle to get enough food to eat. The parish purchases basic groceries (tea, coffee, sugar, canned food, pasta, etc.) for distribution to those in need. Our supply of food is dependent on the generosity of our parishioners, many of whom donate money or grocery items regularly. We are also assisted by a regular donation of grocery items from the families of Christ Church Grammar School and parishioners of Christ Church, South Yarra.

People come to the church on Tuesdays (between 10am and 1pm) and we make up a food parcel for them. We give them as much choice as possible in the content of their parcels.

Each person is entitled to get a food parcel once every two months (we provide them with other locations around the local area who also give out food). Every year, we give out approximately 600 parcels. Clients are required to register for this service, using their Health Care or Pension Card. We also have access, on occasions, to phone cards, which can be used by the clients.
